Forest Acres

The city of Forest Acre's vision is to build a community where people can live, work, and play. It was incorporated in 1935 and it has come a long way! Only 10 minutes from downtown Columbia, Forest Acres used to be considered the countryside years ago according to friends who grew up in Columbia. There are a series of creeks and man-made lakes that attracted families on the weekend. Now multi-million dollar homes are seen on the lakes' lovely coastlines and a wide variety of architecture dot the hilly and flat wooded terrain. Young couples enjoy renovating older homes to accommodate present day life style and decor, as well as keeping a retro style. There are a few newer neighborhoods such as Gregg Park, and Rockbridge Village, as well as award winning apartment complexes such as 42 Magnolia.

Riding around Forest Acres, you will see cyclists, joggers, and walkers among the dogwoods, majestic pines and azaleas. Forest Acres also offers top rated schools, restaurants, shops and boutiques, parks, farmers markets, and free concerts. The community is very supportive of its educators in their four elementary schools, three middle schools, and two high schools with low faculty to student ratios. There are a variety of eating venues from seafood to pizza, Texmex with wood burning ovens to famous southern barbecue. Bonefish Grill, Tombo Grill, Tazza Kitchen just to name a few.

There is shopping for every taste. Trenholm Plaza has the popular Fresh Market and Publix for groceries; Anthropologie, J. Crew, Coplons, Steinmart and Belks for clothing; Citadel Park, Idalia Park and Quinine Hill Park feature playground equipment, open areas for picnics, and walking trails; now under renovation, the Richland County Cooper Library will have more space for quiet reading, an interactive children's space, a covered book drop, and an area dedicated to early literacy.
